Colours of India
On January 31, 2025, the Lester Center of the Arts came alive with the Colours of India, a spectacular sharing of dance and song organized and hosted by Binder Basi and Karishma Sharma of the North Coast Indo-Candian Arts Club, amazing organizers and terrific dancers. The Museum’s Gwis’amiilgigoohl dancers opened the evening with two songs and a welcome to the territory - a powerful beginning to an evening of moving and exciting performances by community members representing the cultures of India from Karala in the south, to Punjab in the north.
From solos and duets to group performances, each dance was amazing and full of life and the love of their culture. The audience of well over 300 enjoyed every minute as their appreciation showed.
This is the first of what we hope are annual events celebrating the cultural diversity of our community. Chris Armstrong, the director of the Lester Center of the Arts, conceived of the idea and is partnering with the Museum in this exciting endeavour. He works tirelessly for the community and it has been wonderful working with him.
